How to Read This Index
Every row is one guide. Published range is the low and high figure that guide’s named source puts in print — these are published estimates, never bids, and no contractor or carrier is bound by them. Typical is a marker only where a source publishes one; an em dash means no source prints a typical figure for that service, and we do not invent one. Scope says what the range actually prices — a full project, a visit, a linear foot, a year of premiums — because two ranges with different scopes cannot be compared side by side. Updated is the date a human last reviewed that guide.
The number your own job lands on depends on your house, your policy, your street. The ranges tell you what the published market looks like, so a bid far outside them deserves a second look.
Methodology: Where Every Figure Comes From
This index computes nothing. Every figure in the table is copied verbatim from the gauge on its guide page, and every guide page names the source that published the figure — a local contractor’s posted price sheet, a national cost study, a carrier rate analysis — alongside the date it was checked. No averages are taken across sources, no ranges are merged, and no figure appears here that does not appear on a guide page first.
If you republish a figure from this index, cite the canonical guide page it came from — the guide is the source of record, it names the original publisher, and it carries the review date your citation needs. Linking the guide keeps your figure traceable when the underlying source moves.
Update Cadence
Each guide carries a human-reviewed date, shown in the Updated column. When a source publishes a new figure, the guide changes and its row here changes with it — the index never runs ahead of the guides. A range that looks stale by its date should be read as the last figure a source put in print, not as today’s market. Check the guide page itself for the freshest caption before quoting anything.

Questions Treasure Valley homeowners ask
Can I republish these figures?
Yes, with attribution. Cite the guide page the figure comes from — each entry in the table links to one — and include that guide’s updated date so readers know when the figure was last reviewed. The guide page names the original source, which keeps your citation traceable.
Why ranges instead of averages?
Because ranges are what the sources publish. Local contractors and national cost studies price different homes, different scopes and different jobs; averaging them would manufacture a number no source stands behind. Where a source does publish a typical figure, it appears in the Typical column — copied, not computed.
How often is this index updated?
The index moves whenever a guide moves. Every guide carries a human-reviewed date — the Updated column shows it — and when a source publishes a new figure, the guide and its row here change together. The index itself is regenerated from the guides, so it can never disagree with them.
Where do the figures come from?
Each guide page names its source directly under the range — a local contractor’s published price sheet, a national cost study, or a carrier rate analysis — with the date it was checked. This index copies those figures verbatim and adds nothing. Follow any row’s link to see the named source behind it.
Is this a quote?
No. Everything here is a published estimate — what sources put in print, not what your job will cost. A real price comes from a bid on your specific house, system or policy. Use the ranges to sanity-check the bids you collect, not to replace them.
